Beginner Day Camp

Welcome to our Beginner Horse Camp at Cougar Mountain Stables – where every day is a new adventure in the world of horses! 

 

Monday to Thursday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, we've packed each day with excitement and hands-on experiences for our young horse enthusiasts.

Mornings kick off with the basics of horse care and grooming, getting our campers familiar and comfortable with these gentle giants. As the day unfolds, our expert instructors guide beginners through the fundamentals of riding, teaching balance, control, and the pure joy of being in the saddle.

We've crafted a well-rounded schedule that includes fun horse-themed games, engaging educational activities, and a chance to bond with new friends who share the same love for these amazing animals. Our camp is designed to build confidence in young riders, setting the foundation for a lifelong appreciation for horses.

Safety is our priority, and our experienced staff ensures a supportive and encouraging environment for every camper. Whether it's leading a horse through an obstacle course or taking the reins for the first time, each day brings a sense of accomplishment and a big smile.

Kids are broke up into age and experienced groups!

Groups of friends can be put together as long as everyone is willing to work at the level needed.

   Group sizes are 6 kids per class,       1 experienced lead instructor and      2 volunteers.

Welcome to the ultimate horse-lover's paradise! Our Kids Intermediate Day Camp is offering a trip to the picturesque CleElum Equestrian Park offers an unforgettable experience for young riders seeking a deeper connection with their equine companions.

Camp Highlights:

  1. Trip to CleElum Equestrian Park, massive arenas to work on our riding skills, walk, trot, canter. Trail rides and explore the beautiful park.

  2. Trail Ride Adventures: Embark on thrilling trail rides through the breathtaking landscapes surrounding CleElum. Explore scenic trails, and discover the joy of riding in nature.

  3. Arena Work: Sharpen your riding skills in the park's state-of-the-art riding arena. Dedicated instructors will guide campers through exercises to improve their trot and canter, ensuring a well-rounded equestrian experience.

  4. In-Depth Horse Care: Learn the art of horsemanship with hands-on sessions focusing on advanced horse care. Campers will delve into the intricacies of horse health, mastering techniques to measure vital signs and gaining valuable insights into wound management.

  5. Saddle Fitting Workshop: Gain a deeper understanding of the importance of a well-fitted saddle. Campers will participate in saddle fitting workshops, ensuring the comfort and well-being of their equine companions during rides.

Monday Itinerary at Cougar Mountain Stables:

  • Welcome and Check-In: 9:00 AM - 3:00PM Campers arrive at Cougar Mountain Stables, meet the camp staff, and settle in for a day of equestrian activities.

  • Introduction to Horse Basics: Campers get acquainted with their equine partners, learn about horse behavior, and receive a brief overview of the day's activities.

  • Mounted Riding Lesson: Begin the day with a riding lesson, focusing on fundamental skills and building a strong connection with the horses.

  • Lunch Break: Campers refuel, preparing for an afternoon of immersive activities.

  • Arena Work: Dive into arena exercises designed to enhance trot and canter techniques. Instructors provide personalized guidance to help riders improve their skills.

  • Introduction to Horse Care: Campers participate in a hands-on workshop covering basic horse care practices for an overnight trip.

  • Daily Recap and Q&A: Wind down the day with a recap, allowing campers to share their experiences and ask any questions they may have.

 

Tuesday Itinerary at Cougar Mountain Stables:

  • Campers learn safety skills, bandaging and go through team building skills to prepare for our CleElum Equestrian Park trip.

  • Camp, engage in a variety of activities including advance riding skills.

  • Work in the arenas to enhance trot and canter techniques, take care of the horses, bath, feed, prep for the next day.

 

Wednesday Itinerary - Day trip to Cle Elum Equestrian Park:

  • Pack up horses and head to the park: Learn what is needed to head out for the day with horses. Once at the park instructors provide guidance on improving riding skills.

  • Wound Management Workshop: Learn essential wound management techniques for horses.

  • Picnic Lunch: Enjoy a delicious lunch at the park.

  • Return Journey: Campers head back to Cougar Mountain Stables.

  • Pick-Up at Cougar Mountain Stables: Parents pick up campers from Cougar Mountain Stables 3:00pm.

Thursday Itinerary at Cougar Mountain Stables:

  • Morning Session:

    • Horse Vitals Practice: Campers engage in a hands-on session practicing the                                                                                       measurement of horse vitals, including heart rate, respiratory rate, and                                                                                                    temperature.

    • Lab Work - Worm Checks: Learn the importance of horse health through lab                                                                                                        work. Campers will check horses for worms, and instructors will guide them                                                                                                     on proper deworming techniques.

  • Midday:

    • Campers take a break to enjoy lunch and recharge for the afternoon.

  • Afternoon Session:

    • Microscope Work: Dive into the fascinating world of microscopes. Campers                                                                                                       use microscopes to examine samples and identify any parasites that may                                                                                                      exist, gaining a deeper understanding of equine health.

    • Riding Practice: Campers get back in the saddle for additional riding practice,                                                                                                  applying and reinforcing the skills learned throughout the week.

  • Late Afternoon:

    • Daily Recap and Q&A: Wind down the day with a recap of the activities. Campers have the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences, and receive feedback.

 

Intermediate Rider Optional Thursday Overnight (extra fee - see overnight schedule)

  • Riders are welcome to stay for the regular Thursday overnight experience at Cougar Mountain Stables. They can choose to register separately for the wagon or tipi overnight and move into the barn for a night of camaraderie and additional equestrian activities. We will be caring for the horses, doing pm chores, movie in the arena, frisbee golf, volleyball, go-carts and roasting marshmallows.

Riders must be comfortable catching/leading a horse and trotting to qualify. This class is advancing equine care and building confidence to a stronger trot/canter skills.

Thursday Overnight - TWO Optional add-ons, Camp out & Riding

Get ready for an unforgettable adventure at Cougar Mountain Stables with our optional overnight experience and game day! As the sun sets on a day filled with riding and laughter, campers have the unique opportunity to spend the night in authentic tipis or cozy chuck wagons, surrounded by the sounds of nature.

 

After camp on Thursday campers will continue to have fun with a wide variety of activities of there choice. Snacks will be served, a wrangler dinner in prepared, featuring hearty and delicious campfire favorites. Afterward, gather 'round the campfire for stories, laughter, and the magic of roasting marshmallows for gooey s'mores. Our night wouldn't be complete without a movie under the stars in the barn, complete with homemade popcorn for the perfect cinematic experience.

 

As the night unfolds, campers will enjoy the thrill of sleeping in the great outdoors, embraced by the warmth of the campfire and the gentle sounds of the night. Our tipis and chuck wagons provide a rustic and authentic camping experience that adds a touch of adventure to the summer camp.

Wake up to the smell of fresh morning air and the promise of an exciting game day ahead! There are two options, campers can choose to just stay overnight or they can add the option to ride again after breakfast! Campers will get horses ready to ride to play horse back riding games to exciting horse-themed challenges, our game day is designed to bring out the spirit of friendly competition and teamwork. It's a day filled with joy, camaraderie, and the kind of memories that make summer camp at Cougar Mountain Stables truly special.
